Tom Kovacs-Posters & Woodcuts

Tom Kovacs was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1939. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Visual Communication at the Ohio State University in 1962 and 1965 respectively.

He is currently Professor Emeritus in Graphic Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where he taught from 1965 –1999. He served 12 years as head of the School of Art and Design’s foundation program in drawing and design, and 15 years as program chair in the school’s graphic design program. He was also Assistant Dean in the College of Fine and Applied Arts for 2 years. After his retirement from UIUC in 1999, he was appointed Visiting Senior Professor in Graphic Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) where he taught for 4 years, and served as graphic design area head.
